The Highlands is a primarily residential community, rural in nature, and has an exceptional abundance of scenic beauty. Located just northwest of Victoria, one third of this area is protected parkland, either provincially or municipally. Home owners in this area are asked to build their homes in a way that leaves the least impact on the environment. Located only a thirty minute drive from Victoria, Metchosin is a rural community with large areas of farmland. The major areas are William Head, Rocky Point, Kangaroo Road, Albert Head and Happy Valley.

Metchoin is known for its horseback riding, outdoor trails and parks, as well as a number of golf courses. Some of the popular spots in Metchosin are: Witty’s Lagoon, popular for sports and relaxation; Pedder Bay, well known for its fishing and boating; Matheson Lake, popular for its swimming and hiking trails; and Pearson College.
